KEEGAN UPDATE : 10 WEEKS ON : 14 JUNE 2009

Doctors at MilPark Hospital have now approved Keegan’s discharge from hospital, so investigations are underway to identify the most suitable rehab. home for him.

Whilst this is all positive, it DOES NOT signify any sudden improvement in his condition.  The doctors have now said that there is nothing more that they can do for him medically, and therefore the various therapists must swing into action.   He remains in a coma for most of the time, only waking up occasionally, with very limited response,  for brief spells.

They have had him sitting up but found that he was not so comfortable in this position, even experiencing more difficulty in opening his eyes than when he is prone.

However, he is off all machines, living on his own, and his trachea incision is virtually healed over.   His arms have responded to the Botox injections are now not so firmly clasped up towards his throat.

What does all this signify?

Today marks the end of yet another significant week on the fund-raising front.  Once again the people of Zimbabwe have demonstrated their extreme commitment to one of their own.  We are very grateful to the former South African and Australian national rugby coaches who came up for the weekend; to Springbok rugby player Schalk Burger who donated all the wine for the fund-raising dinner; and also to the unsung heroes who work so hard behind the scenes to organise such events.  Their attention to detail and commitment is astounding.

And from outside our borders the generosity to the Trust continues to amaze us all.

Final figures are awaited from events in both Harare and Bulawayo hut the prediction is that the overall figure of cash raised must now be close to $140,000.

‘Thank you all’ really sounds so inadequate.

UNTIL NEXT WEEK………….
